7 December 2017: Our seventh story, The Hedgehog Rescued by Hugh Pannell, follows the exploits of a lost hedgehog.
24 December 2016:
'Why Walk?' by Grace Gant accompanies the film 'The Walk', which you can view from the poem's page.
12 November 2016: After another interruption we return with Appleby by Grace Gant, requesting a return to the town.
23 August 2016: After a break we return with Textual Stalking, a poem inspired by interruptions in a place of beauty.
28 May 2016: A new poem, The Orange Tree, inspired by a very relaxing weekend!
12 March 2016
: Greycrag Tarn has largely disappeared under plant life, and there are now only tiny patches of open water.
14 February 2016: This month Grace asks What will February be like?, posted while snow falls on a sunny afternoon!
10 January 2016: We start the year with two very different poems - January in Richmond by Grace Gant and Lambs Ramblers Boots, an acrostic by Terry Watkins.
20 December 2015:
Blelham Tarn is a large wedge shaped tarn near the north-western shores of Windermere.

17 October 2015
: Today we add two more poems by Terry Watkins - 'A Yellowbelly's Yorkshire' and 'The Moorland Sheep'.
10 October 2015:
Terry Watkins is an evocatively skilled writer and we are delighted to include his poems "A Storm on the Moor" and 'The New Forest'   Without further ado we will let the poems speak for themselves.
4 October 2015:
This walk takes us onto the ridge of fells (Lord's Seat, Broom Fell and Graystones) that sit between the quiet valleys of Aiken Beck and Wythop.
20 September 2015
: Broom Fell is the highest point on the ridge that connects Lord's Seat to Graystones and overlooks the quiet valleys of Aiken Beck to the south and Wythop to the north
30 August 2015: White Side or Whiteside Bank is the next fell north along the Helvellyn Range (taking Lower Man as part of the parent fell). At over 2,700ft it would be a sizable fell in other company, but here it is rather overwhelmed by its taller and much more dramatic neighbour.
22 August 2015: High Raise (Langdale) is the highest point on the line of fells that form the central watershed of the Lake District and form the boundary between the generally smooth sloped fells of the east and the rocky fells of the west.

This site is going to represent our knowledge of the United Kingdom. It is going to be an entirely arbitrary collection of material, connected only by the fact that one of our authors liked the area, took the photo, ate the meal or wrote the poem!

Yorkshire Moors The North Pennines The Lake District Hadrian's Wall The Yorkshire Dales Peak District Snowdonia Our clickable map shows the areas we currently intend to cover - hover over the map to visit the sections that are already in place.

We have now opened our walks section, and now have a selection of one hundred and forty nine walks in the North Pennines, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, Peak District, Yorkshire Wolds, the Shropshire Hills and Scotland.

We have now opened a Walking in Britain Blog where we will be announcing all of our updates.

A warm welcome to Richie Mais who has submitted a poem that we are delighted to include on this web site.  Those who have walked in the Malham area of North Yorkshire will especially enjoy Richard’s powerful and evocative work:  Malham Trod.

We also add our first story: Suitable for all ages, Presenting Pavlova introduces the reader to sheep characters of the North Pennines.  Share in their lives and adventures.  Feel their elation and determination.  At times, note their sorrow.  Pavlova will lead you gently into the natural landscape of hills, dales, scars and valleys.
