Guide: Wester Ross

Wester Ross is the name generally given to the western part of Ross and Cromarty, covering the larger part of the county of Ross. Originally the name was used for the area west of the county's watershed (where the water flows west into the Atlantic), but the boundary between Wester Ross and Easter Ross is rather vauge.

Wester Ross is dominated by beautiful scenary, in particular the Torridon Hills and the splendid coastline, with long narrow sea lochs that cut deep into the mountains. The area is very sparcely populated, and Ullapool with its 1300 people is the largest town in the Wester Ross.
