The Cairngorm mountains contain the most high ground of any mountain range in Britain, only just failing to equal Ben Nevis in height. They are probably best known as a sking area, with Britain's most famous ski resort at Aviemore in the north-western part of the Cairngorms National Park. The Cairngorm mountains differ in form from the more rugged craggy mountains further west. Here there are massive rounded mountains, grass (or snow) covered, with large native forests and an impressive array of wildlife. The area also borders onto the Speyside whisky area, with Glenlivit on the northern edge of the part and Glenfiddich at Dufftown a short distance to the north.
