North Uist is one of the larger islands in the Outer Hebrides, and is a largely low-lying island dominated by dozens of lochs, especially in the east.
The Taigh Chearsabhagh musuem and arts centre can be found on the shores of Loch Maddy (Loch nam Madadh), a sea loch on the east coast.
The only stone circle on North Uist is at Langais or Pobull Fhinn, just to the south of the A867 as it crosses the island. This is close to Barpas Langass, the only chambered cairn in the Outer Hebrides to still have its roof intact.
The island is roughly triangular. At its western tip is the RSPB Balranaid nature reserve, with a visitor centre that is open during the spring and summer.
