Mingulay (or Miughlaigh) is a small island towards the southern end of the Outer Herbrides. It was inhabited for around 2,000 years, and there are Iron Age remains on the island. The last islanders left in 1912 after life became too harsh. The island can now be visited by boat from Barra when the weather is right. The western sea cliffs are impressive, and are a great refuge for sea birds.
