Milton (South Uist)

Milton (or Geàrraidh Bhailteas) is a tenant farm near the west coast of South Uist that is famous as the birthplace of Flora MacDonald, famous for her role in helping 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' escape in the aftermath of the Jacobite defeat at Culloden. There is now a museum nearby that also contains material on local life and the efforts of Margaret Fay Shaw to collect local music and song. The farm is close to the main road that runs up the western side of the island, and is about a third of the way up from the southern tip of the island.
