Forres is an attractive town a few miles inland from the Moray Firth. The town centre is close to attractive parks, while the area to the south is heavily wooded. The valley of the River Findhorn offers some dramatic walks, while nearby is the Findhorn Community.
On the edge of Forres is Sueno's Stone, a six metre tall carved stones that depicts a Pictish battle. The stone is around 1,000 years old, and may have been a cenotaph.
Forres is the home of Benromach, the smallest working distillery in Speyside.
Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery, a few miles south of Forres, is no longer a working distillery, but is now a dedicated museum.
Six miles to the west is Brodie Castle, a 16th century tower house, with an excellent collection of art, furniture and books, surrounded by sizable grounds.
