Ellisland

Ellisland was the home of Robert Burns for a short period from 1788, when he became the tenant farmer.

The farm is located on the River Nith, north-west of Dumfries. When Burns took over the farm it was somewhat neglected, and suffered from stony ground.

Burns wrote a number of his most famous poems while farming at Ellisland. One of the earliest was his 'Epistle To Hugh Parker' while the most famous was 'Tam O' Shanter' (although he was actually living at the nearby Friars Carse rather than in the actual farm house at the time).
