Pleased at last to get away
The holiday was thrilling
We walked along the pleasant beach
Although the wind was chilling
Then listening to a broadcast
Surprise! We did not know
The rest of all the British Isles
Was covered deep in snow
We watched the news with interest
Saw drifts and laden trees
Cars abandoned, roads submerged
But no snow in St Bees
We'd sunshine, birds and daffodils
Red squirrels skitted boldly
But no sign of the white stuff
That froze the world so coldly
We saw the mountains smothered
But drove around in ease
As not a single snowflake
Landed in St Bees
