Elterwater village is a pretty village at the eastern end of Great Langdale, with some excellent pubs and lovely riverside walks. The village is to the north-west of Elterwater Lake, which is frustratingly difficult to approach (part of the shore can be reached by following the riverside footpath from the village). The village has a tiny green with a single tree that faces the Britannia Inn and the village shop. The village is well served by car parks, with one in the village and one just to the north. Elterwater was once an important part of the area's gunpowder industry, and the gunpowder mill was on the site of the time-share complex just to the west of the village.
Directions: Elterwater is just to the south of the main road into Great Langdale
