Middlesmoor is the northernmost village in Nidderdale, and is perched half way up the 1,486ft high bulk of Rain Stang. The village is at the end of a road with a one-in-four gradient that climbs up from Lofthouse, ending at Middlesmoor (continuing as a track across the moors to Scar House Reservoir). The village contains a hotel (the Crown), a church and a chapel, and commands sweeping views down the valley. Nearby attractions include How Stean Gorge, a dramatic half-mile long ravine.
