We’d been before as tourists
And seen the falls of course
From the safety of the platform
At wonderful High Force
But when we went as walkers
In our booted, zipped up pride
We strode along in innocence
Along the other side
All at once we faltered
And felt a flash of fear
At how close the path meandered
To the drop that was so sheer
We persevered with caution
And continued up, of course
Until we reached the high spot
Looking down on grand High Force
From there we watched the torrents
Plummet, foam and thrash
And listened to the roar
Of its mighty thunderous crash
I can tell you that we marvelled
With eyes popped open wide
Made speechless by the danger
Seen from the other side
