Knock is one of the series of villages that sit at the foot of the western edge of the North Pennines, below the long ridge of high ground that peaks on Cross Fell. Knock is unusual in that it is close to two smaller but still impressive peaks - Knock Pike and Dufton Pike, which sit to the north and east of the village.
