Cumrew is a small village at the north-western corner of the North Pennines, sitting in the valley of Cairn Beck. This runs parallel to the main line of the hills, and so the hills to the west are much lower than the hills to the east - Cumrew Fell in the east peaks at 488m/ 1,601ft, while the hills to the west only reach 243m/ 798ft.
