Matterdale End

Matterdale End is a small village in the countryside north of Ullswater. Most people only see the eastern end of the village as they head along the A 5019, but most of the village actually lies to the west of the road.

In some ways Matterdale End and Dockray form a single community, despite the gap between them. The village church, which was built in 1686, lies half way between the two hamlets, and the original school was close to the church.

Directions: Matterdale lies on the A 5091, the main road that runs north from Ullswater to the A66 at Troutbeck (between Kewsick and Penrith).
