Far Sawrey

Far Sawrey is passed through by vast numbers of visitors every year, although very few stop, for it is on the route from the Windermere Ferry to Beatrix Potter’s house at Near Sawrey. Far Sawrey itself is a small village, with a good pub, impressive village shop and small car park, situated on the western slopes of the hills that line the western bank of Windermere. Its most notable feature is the unusual Victorian church, in the fields to the south. The village does make a good base for walks in the wooded hills to the north, with paths leading up to Claife Heights, while an excellent path runs along the north western shore of Windermere.
