Aira Force

Aira ForceAira Force is set in a wooded valley on the northern shore of Ullswater. It is a popular tourist attraction, complete with its own National Trust car park. The approach through the trees is delightful, with paths on either side of Aira Beck. Bridges cross the beck above and below the falls (the bridge above the falls can be seen on the photo to the right)

I approached Aira Force on the descent from Gowbarrow Park, the fell most closely associated with the falls. From the path down the south west corner of the fell, the falls are invisible in the trees, and come as something of a surprise after a walk on the grassy slopes above.

Aira Force has inspired two of our poems - Aira Force and Aira Force Again, both by Grace Gant.
