Guide: Caithness

Map of CaithnessCaithness sits at the north-eastern tip of Scotland, and is best known for John o' Groats and the Queen Mother's Castle of May. This is the flattest area in the north of Scotland, but has a dramatic coastline.

John o'Groats is the most north-easterly settlement in mainland Britain, but not the furthest north (a glance at the local map will show a series of more northerly settlements, while Dunnet Head has the most northerly point). John o'Groats is however the furthest inhabited point from Land's End, and the trip between the two has become a test of endurance and a source of much charity funding.
