Yorkshire Dales

Wensleydale from Bolton CastleThe Yorkshire Dales refers to that part of the Pennine chain that falls within Yorkshire. It continues on through County Durham and the into Northumberland and Cumbria as the North Pennines.

Whernside summitThe Yorkshire Dales includes the Yorkshire Three Peaks - Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. It is now an established challenge to climb all three of these peaks in a twelve hour period. Your author had climbed all three, but over a six month period.

Our first walk in the Dales is a gentle stroll in Arkengarthdale, starting at Langthwaite (see our Walks page for more options)
