Near the ruins runs the river
By the river runs a breeze
That lifts and wafts the foliage
And rustles through the trees
Lean against the tower
That is the castle keep
And watch the Tees and listen
To its waters running deep
It whispers Bernard Baliol
Who’s era brought the stone
That built this rugged castle
Which stands here all alone
It shouts of might and history
Of politics and gore
Love affairs and antics
And many stories more
