This rocky step on Whiteless Pike is a good example of the way in which some features look far more daunting from a distance than from close up. When approaching from Whiteless Breast this looks like a vertical wall of rock, an illusion greatly aided if there is a queue of people waiting to cross. As this picture shows the exposed rock is actually at a very gentle angle, and the queue was formed of people waiting to photograph it!
