Slaggyford is one of the series of villages in the South Tyne Valley, and sits about half way between Alston and the northern edge of the North Pennines. The village sits on the main road, which at this point is on the western side of the River South Tyne. The valley is particularly steep on the far side of the river, and quite steep above Slaggyford, although the side valley of Gelt Burn starts just to the north.
