Forest-in-Teesdale is a small community in the upper reaches of Teesdale, located close to the junction between the River Tees and Harwood Beck. At this point the Tees swings away to the south and the road continues along the Harwood Valley on its way to Alston in the South Tyne valley. Meanwhile the Tees runs south to Cauldron Snout and Cow Green Reservoir.
