Howtown is on the southern shore of the eastern part of Ullswater, about half way from Pooley Bridge to the point where the lake turns sharply south. The hamlet mainly consists of the hotel and the landing stage, and is at the start of one of the best low level walks in the area - take the ferry from Glenridding to Howtown then walk back along the southern shore of the lake.
Directions: Howtown is towards the end of the minor road that runs along the southern side of Ullswater, starting at Pooley Bridge.
